Months in Russian
The twelve months in Russian, January to December: январь, февраль, март, апрель, май, июнь, июль, август, сентябрь, октябрь, ноябрь, декабрь. All are masculine, none is capitalized, and in January is в plus the prepositional: в январе.
How the months work
The names are old Latin friends (январь is January, август is August), which makes them the easiest list on this page to memorize. All twelve are masculine nouns and, like the days, always lowercase.
The form you will actually say is in-such-a-month: в plus the prepositional case. Here the soft-sign months move their stress to the ending: январь but в январе, сентябрь but в сентябре. The chart shows every in-form with its stress, because guessing it is exactly what NuanceDeck exists to prevent.
Dates use the genitive: первое января is January first, literally the first of January. Meet the pattern now; it will meet you on every ticket and calendar.
