Help in Russian
Help in Russian is помогите! (pomogite) as the urgent call, and Вы можете мне помочь? (can you help me?) as the polite request. The person being helped stands in the dative: помогите МНЕ, help to-me.
The ways to say it
How to use it
Помогать/помочь governs the dative, which you met on the dative case page: помогите брату (help my brother), помогу тебе (I will help you). The helped person is a recipient, never a direct object.
For everyday favours the softened negative question is the native move: вы не поможете мне...? (would you not help me...?). It sounds tentative in English and perfectly polite in Russian.
